Australian Hi-Tech and Healthcare Software Developers Dominate InterSystems Global Innovator Awards

~ Melbourne-based OPTALERT's Fatigue Risk Profiler Wins First Prize; Queensland's Mater Health Services Wins Third Prize For Electronic Health Record Platform ~

SYDNEY, Australia -- March 24, 2011 -- Two Australian organisations that built and deployed breakthrough applications based on advanced software technologies from InterSystems Corporation dominated the 2011 InterSystems "Innovator Awards", winning first and third places.

Melbourne-based high-technology firm, OPTALERT Pty Ltd and Mater Health Services, which operates the Mater group of seven Queensland hospitals, were honoured at the InterSystems GLOBAL SUMMIT 2011 customer conference. The winners were selected from a broad field of entries submitted by developers from 15 countries and judged by an independent panel of IT industry experts.

First Place: OPTALERT for "Fatigue Risk Profiler"
OPTALERT is the world's only real-time driver safety system that detects and warns against the early onset of drowsiness by accurately measuring a person's level of alertness. The Web-based system monitors alertness via specialised glasses that measure the velocity of the wearer's eyelid 500 times per second and converts this into a score from 0 to 10; the higher the score, the drowsier and less alert the driver is.

The OPTALERT Fatigue Risk Profiler uses the InterSystems CACHÉ® high performance object database to store massive amounts of data for companies to quickly identify, track and monitor the alertness level and corresponding fatigue risk profile of many drivers all at the same time. With CACHÉ , OPTALERT was able to move to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model and provide an in-the-cloud service tailored to meet the varying requirements of its global mining and transport industry clients.

OPTALERT aims to take pre-emptive safety action to the next level through the business intelligence capabilities of InterSystems DeepSee™. DeepSee will provide real-time insight into the vast amounts of data recorded over several years, contributing to future service improvements and value-added revenue opportunities.

Third Place: Mater Health Services for "Mater EHR Platform"
The Mater Electronic Health Record (EHR) Platform was developed using the CACHÉ database and the InterSystems Ensemble® seamless platform for integration and the development of connectable applications.

The Mater EHR Platform brings together information for 1.4 million patients sourced from over 100 disparate clinical information systems inside and outside Mater Health Services.

The Mater EHR Platform includes three main components:
* A clinical data repository, which provides clinical and administrative data from the multiple disparate silos of information systems distributed across the environment.
* An integration service and custom routing engine, which provides HL7 messaging between the different information systems and the interface hub.
* An identity matching solution, which supports an enterprise-wide patient master index (PMI) that ensures unique identification of patients.

"Our Australian winners competed against innovative software developers from 15 countries around the world," said Stan Capp, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East and India for InterSystems. "That they won first and third places is a testament to the depth of talent and innovation among Australian software developers, particularly in the high technology and healthcare sectors."

OPTALERT Pty Ltd is the world leader in monitoring driver alertness and fatigue risk profiling. The multi-award winning OPTALERT range of fatigue monitoring technologies is the only independent scientifically validated, real-time safety system in the world that detects the early onset of drowsiness during a journey by accurately measuring a person's level of alertness.
