Enhancements to InterSystems TrakCare Build on Vision to Deliver Comprehensive Patient Records Across Care Settings on Any Device
Healthcare Information System’s Browser-Based Interface Gains Touch-Optimised Support for Mobile Devices; Clinical Enhancements Further Improve Patient Safety
SYDNEY, Australia – December 13, 2012 – InterSystems Corporation, a global leader in software for connected care, today released a new version of the InterSystems TrakCare® unified healthcare information system, with clinical enhancements including support for family care and intravenous prescribing, and touch-optimised support for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Building on the existing browser-based user interface supporting any Internet-enabled device, this TrakCare release further supports healthcare organisations in delivering the benefits of an electronic patient record across a spectrum of care settings.
Clinical enhancements to TrakCare include specific functionality for family care, enhanced nursing care plans, and immunisation support. Additions to TrakCare’s powerful closed loop medication management capabilities include enhancements to intravenous prescribing and patient-controlled analgesia to further improve patient safety and clinician productivity.
Deployed in 25 countries, TrakCare supports multiple languages and the broadest clinical, administrative, laboratory, and community care capabilities on any Internet-based delivery platform. The system’s Internet-based architecture
– unified by a single data repository utilising the InterSystems CACHÉ® object database
– enables healthcare organisations to support new platforms and devices at the point of care without additional software or apps.
Touch-optimised support for iOS and Android devices
“To improve the quality of care and patient safety while controlling costs, healthcare organisations need to deliver the benefits of an electronic patient record in any care setting, on any device available to clinicians,” said Christine Chapman, TrakCare Chief Operating Officer at InterSystems. “The benefit to our mobile approach - using a single software application supporting common Internet standards - is that we can offer a common user interface across all platforms that autodetects mobile devices to optimise specific functionality like touch.”
TrakCare’s touch-optimised support for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets enables gesture scrolling, pagination, and change-of-device orientation. TrakCare automatically detects device types to deliver a range of views to the user, optimised for their device, including a search and ward list view and a range of mobile electronic patient record views such as clinical notes view and entry, diagnosis view and entry, vital signs view and entry, orders view, images view, and results view.
Extended functionality to enable more coordinated, holistic approaches to care
Extending its industry-leading clinical support for primary and community care settings, TrakCare now offers functionality for family or group care. The new Family Health Module enables clinicians to create a family or group record in conjunction with a residential record, identify patients in a specific family and/or residence, and register relationships between individuals. The system also allows users to book family or group events or appointments; record living conditions, risk assessments and other household information; and report on the clients in their area of care.
New functionality for nursing care plans allows nursing and other clinical staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings to easily and efficiently manage the entirety of the patient treatment, from initial assessments and identification of problems, to ongoing assessments, examinations, orders, and treatment plans for home or clinic visits, while capturing all relevant clinical and administrative data.
TrakCare also now makes it possible to plan and record immunisations, supports multiple vaccination schedules reflecting specific regional requirements, and provides dedicated workflows, charts and reports to make vaccination management easier.
Enhancements to closed loop medication management
New TrakCare functionality supports global best practices in medication management with significant enhancements in intravenous prescribing and patient-controlled analgesia. These provide clinicians with industry-leading levels of control over intravenously delivered medications and new calculation methods, which reduce the risk of errors. By extending support for more complex prescribing, TrakCare helps ensure that a patient’s full medications history is captured in the electronic patient record, providing a full view of allergies and drug interactions at the time of prescription, further improving patient safety.
“TrakCare leads the healthcare industry in providing clinicians with the information and functionality needed to support patient-centred care,” said Chapman. “This is critical to the success of connected care and reflects InterSystems’ track record implementing leading initiatives that integrate acute and community care in Brazil, Chile, Australia, and other countries.”
